It turns out that Portugal is going through a good economic moment. Foreign investment is rising very fast. Many areas of activity are on the rise, but highlighting four in particular:

1. Civil Construction
2. Tourism
3. Computer science
4. Metal mechanics
 

Metal-mechanics is the activity with the highest volume of exports, having been growing very fast and continuously in the last years. Several factories open each year with strong foreign and domestic investment.

The growth in information technology is the result of recognition of the excellent training of technicians in Portugal. Europe's largest IT companies have established themselves in Portugal. Google and Amazon announced the opening of centers in Portugal with worldwide prominence.
 

The tourism is spectacular and growing. Porto - Oporto (where we have our office, although we operate at a national level) has had an economic growth of more than 15% per year in the last 4 years! They are permanently opening multi-star hotels, from hostels to 5-star hotels. Porto has gained in recent years, on several occasions, the ranking of the best European destination city. This classification is given by onlines votes from tourists. It could not be more direct, true and without influence.
 
The increase in civil construction is a consequence of everything else: for hotels, for trade, services for own housing or rental. The recovery of old buildings is getting to levels never seen before. Foreign investors privilege the purchase of old buildings in the city historical center, that are recovered with a lot of charm and beauty. Either because they want to live there, to have a residence or a vacations home, or because they want to use them for AirBnB and the like (short term rentals for tourists, which, right now, is the fastest growing service market in Portugal).   

Lisbon has gotten to too high values, sometimes above the point to get ROI. Investors are turning to Porto, in great numbers, where it is believed that the moment of investment is now and there is still a margin to invest and have returns.
 
The Golden Visa issue is a consequence of this positive economical moment, but it is also – for many it is the main reason – seen as an alternative solution for personal and family life. In fact, it is for many what is usually called "Plan B". It might be very important to have a residence permit here in Portugal (which can be later used to transform into a portuguese/ european citizenship). This permits can be obtained to the investor, or to the entire family, with due processes, all prepared for this end.
